Could Facebook IPO help it dominate Google?

Influx of cash could deliver more users, a move into China, new tech

Computerworld - With the Facebook initial public offering (IPO) now official, industry and financial analysts say that a huge influx of cash could enable the social networking company to topple Google from its dominant position in the online world.

Facebook had been expected to file its IPO papers with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission this week, and it did just that late yesterday afternoon. Analysts and potential investors were eagerly awaiting what is one of the largest IPOs in recent years.
With an expected valuation of $100 billion, financial analysts say the IPO is worth about $5 billion. That's a big potential war chest for a company that has been fighting for social networking users and advertising dollars with the largest Internet company on Earth - Google.
Given the popularity of its search engine, along with services and products like Google Maps, Android and Chrome, Google obviously is no slouch: It has 32,000 employees around the world and $37.86 billion in annual revenue. That's $1.166 million per employee in revenue.

But Facebook, with just 3,000 employees, pulls in $3.8 billion in revenue; that's $1.8 million in revenue per employee.
"Facebook has 800 million users," noted Dan Olds, an analyst with The Gabriel Consulting Group. "How many companies have 800 million anything? The thing that's interesting is that Facebook is profitable and solidly profitable. And an IPO is a huge step for any company, but it's the validation for Facebook, their business and their social networking model."
Facebook and Google are increasingly in each other's wheel house.
Just this past year, Google launched Google+, its own social network and a new direct competitor to Facebook. (Just last week it made Google+ more available to teens, another move to broaden its appeal.) And Google CEO Larry Page has said he plans to integrate Google+ social features into the company's wide range of services and products.
With a lot of new cash, Facebook could make a lot of moves. Olds wonders whether Facebook would try to buy Yahoo, which has been struggling, or even Twitter.
And both Olds and Scott Sweet, a senior managing partner with IPO Boutique, said Facebook could use the money to hire more employees and acquire other Internet companies. Theey also pointed out that Facebook could use the cash to find partners and set up operations in China, which could dramatically increase an already immense user base.
It would take some time -- and Facebook would have to successfully pull off some big moves -- but it could one day dominate Google, according to Sweet. "I do believe that anything is possible with Facebook," he added.
Unseating Google would be no easy feat, though.
First off, according to Olds, the companies are not substitutes for each other. Google is the basis for most searches. Facebook is the basis for most social connections.
And while a profitable IPO would make Facebook stronger, Google is still substantially larger.
"It gives Facebook a ... war chest," said Olds. "Google, though, has $45 billion in cash and short-term investments. That's a really big war chest. Even with this influx of cash, Facebook still can't play in Google's league in terms of cash."
Mark Siegel, a managing director with Menlo Ventures LLC, said Google came along to surpass Microsoft as the biggest tech company. And now Facebook is poised to take the lead from Google.
"Facebook is potentially the platform company for the next 10 years," said Siegel. "I absolutely think this is a scary event for Google. Will it make [Facebook] dominant over Google? Well, Facebook already does dominate Google in terms of social networking. This will enable Facebook to compete with Google in a lot of areas."
Could Facebook push past Google?
"Well, this certainly enables Facebook to move in that direction," said Siegel.

Listen to Music With Your Friends

Music is one of the most powerful and fun ways to connect. Whether it's at a concert with a bunch of people or on a long car ride with your best buddy, we love listening to music with our friends. But what if you could listen to music with your friends when you're alone, like at work, at home or on the go?

Today, with music services on Facebook, there's a new way to listen with friends. This feature lets you listen along with any of your friends who are currently listening to music. You can also listen together in a group while one of your friends plays DJ.

You can listen to the same song, at the exact same time—so when your favorite vocal part comes in you can experience it together, just like when you're jamming out at a performance or dance club.

How It Works

Look for the music note in the chat sidebar to see which of your friends are listening to music. To listen with a friend, hover over their name, and click the Listen With button. The music will play through the service your friend is using.

When a new song plays, you'll come along for the ride, discovering new music while your friend DJs for you.

You'll also have the option to chat about what you're listening to.  As other people start listening along, they'll join the party in a group chat.

You can control who you're listening along with through your settings. Learn more here.

Rollout Starts Today

Now, you can experience enjoying music together with your friends no matter where you are. This feature will start rolling out over the next few weeks. We hope you enjoy listening with friends!

Apps bring your timeline to life
Once you've added an app, you can begin updating your timeline with your activities as they happen. For example, if you love design, shopping or fashion, you can add the Pinterest or Pose apps to make your favorite items part of your timeline.

If you love to cook, you can add the Foodily app to your timeline and share your latest dishes. If your friends have added the Foodily app, you can discover new recipes with each other, as you'll see their updates in the ticker and their timeline, and possibly News Feed.

If you're a traveler, you can add the Gogobot and TripAdvisor apps to bring a virtual passport to your timeline, and show your friends where you've been and share tips about your favorite spots from around the world.

Soon, there will be apps for all types of interests, as more apps will launch over time. Whether you love snowboarding, gardening, hiking, or knitting, or something else, there will be an app for you.

How to add apps to your timeline
Timeline apps are for the activities you want to share with friends. You choose when to add an app, and you decide who can see it. After you've added an app, you can always remove posts directly from timeline, and you can also edit your settings from your personal Activity Log.

You and your friends can start adding apps to your timeline today to discover new recipes, places to go, events to attend, and more.

How to remove timeline from my facebook profile ? deactivate Facebook Timeline

How to remove timeline from my facebook profile ? deactivate Facebook Timeline

Lot of people are asking if it is possible to remove Facebook Timeline  / disable the New Facebook Timeline.

You might have read our post on how to enable Facebook’s new ... Please help me remove timeline -I want my old profile look back!

NO you cannot. Once you activated it you have 7 days to review all your infos and check which ones you want to keep or hide from your profile. But that’s it.you cant remove it – everyone has to start using it this month, and the old format will go away forever
As for every facebook profile update, some people like it and some others don’t. But each time with Facebook it’s impossible to come back at the old profile.
Everything you will read on Internet is only temporary solutions that I don’t recommend (like deactivate your account for 30 minutes). Don’t do this as this is not supported officially and anyways in a few days the social network will put you back the new Timeline profile.
May be if many many people report that they hate the new Timeline, Zuckerberg’s team will do something and give us the choice. But for now unfortunately you have to deal with it.
So for now the best thing I could recommend is to upload a nice cover photo and enjoy with new timeline fetures
see some example of new  timeline covers : if you want to put this type image on your facebook profile just go to http://www.coverimages.in

Create a unique Facebook profile picture

Create a unique Facebook profile picture

Facebook profile pictureAt the top of your Facebook profile, you'll see the five most recent pictures containing a picture of you. You can use this section of your profile to make a more unique and original profile picture by extending the main profile picture into these recent pictures. As can be seen in the picture to the right, this profile takes a larger image and spreads it from the profile picture into the recent pictures across the top.
This can be easily accomplished using the free Pic Scatter online tool. With this tool, you can upload any picture and easily adjust the picture to be shown in the profile section, the top five images, and even the wall.
Caution When using this technique any time you or a friend tags you in a photo it will be posted in the top section of your profile ruining this effect. To keep this effect, hide any new photo by clicking the x that appears when hovering the mouse in the top right-corner of the picture

Top 10 Facebook tips

Top 10 Facebook tips

Below is a listing of our top 10 tips for the popular social networking website Facebook. Hide users, games, polls, etc.
It quickly gets annoying seeing some users posts, game invites, polls, etc. Hovering your mouse to the right of the post and clicking the Hide button as shown below can hide any post. Once this button is pressed you'll be prompted with the option to hide that user or in the case of a Facebook application the option to hide that application from ever showing up on your profile.
Hide Facebook users, games, polls, etc.
To unhide someone or unblock an application click the Edit Options link in the bottom right corner of the news feed as shown below.
Facebook unhide friends
Greasemonkey and FB Purity
Although Facebook does not allow the ability to hide friends getting new friends messages, friends becoming fans of something, and some application messages they can still be hidden with browser add-ons. If you're running Mozilla Firefox, Chrome, Opera, or Safari we suggest installing the Facebook Purity add-on.
Update your privacy settings
Click Account in the top right corner of the Facebook window and then click Privacy settings to adjust who is capable of seeing what on your Facebook profile. We highly recommend going through all the privacy settings to verify your privacy is properly protected.
Anything that is not set to friends only or friends of friends can be seen by anyone searching on the Internet. Below is a few things we recommend for most users.
  1. Under Search in Privacy settings uncheck Public Search Results. This will prevent users from finding your account and profile picture in search results such as Google
  2. Under Application settings, make sure you're only allowing applications you want to have access to your information. Applications that you grant rights to can have access to your Facebook profile information.
  • If you're curious to see how a program or web page connect to the Facebook API can see your profile see Tip135.
Use the Facebook top bar for navigation
Facebook navigation
Knowing how to properly navigate is vital if you want to get the most out of Facebook. Below is a brief description of each of the available options in the top bar as shown above.
Home (facebook logo) - Clicking this logo will take you to your wall (News Feed) that shows all friends recent posts.
Friend requests - If any friend requests are waiting to be approved this icon will show a notification of how many friends are waiting for approval. This icon can also be clicked when you want to view any friend recommendations or search for friends on Facebook.
Messages - This section allows you to send and receive private messages between one or more people you're friends with.
Notifications - Any time a friend or Facebook application creates a new post you'll be notified in this section. Clicking this icon will show all recent notifications. If you wish to change what is capable of sending you notifications including any Facebook applications or games click the See All Notifications link at the bottom and check or uncheck what you want to be notified on.
Search - Finally, the search box in Facebook can be a powerful tool that can be used to quickly find any current friends or people on Facebook. In addition searching for terms such as a company name, product, sports team, music band, etc. will find fan pages and groups that can be joined.
Modify your account notifications
Keep your e-mail and your cell phone clean by updating or eliminate Facebook notifications or keep more up-to-date by adding new notifications. Facebook notifications can be added and removed by clicking Account link in the top right corner, then Account Settings, and then clicking the Notifications tab.
Top News and Most Recent
Facebook News and most Recent
By default Facebook will display your wall postings in the News format, which means it only displays posts it believes are most relevant to you. These results are based on your past interaction with your friends. If you want to see every post made by all your friends that are not hidden click the Most recent link in the upper right section of your news feed as shown in the above picture example.
If you want to adjust who shows up manually click the Edit Options in the bottom right corner of your news feed.
Facebook unhide friends
View High School work friends
If you've added your High School or previous Work locations to your profile, quickly see all classmates and co-workers on Facebook by clicking the link in your Info tab under your profile.
Quickly change profile picture
Your profile picture can be quickly changed to any other picture by visiting your profile, hovering the mouse over your current profile picture, and clicking the Change Picture link that appears in the top right corner of the picture.
Don't post private information on friend's walls on in comments
When you make a post on a friend's wall or in any of their comments realize that any of their friends are going to be able to see that post. If you wish for something to remain only between you and a friend send them a Facebook message instead.
Suggestions and random friend invites
As you get more friends on Facebook it will begin making friend, groups, and fan suggestions. These are suggestions made by Facebook and not your friends. Unless these are something you're interested in they can be ignored.
This same rule can be applied to people who may want to be your friend that you don't know. If you don't know someone don't accept his or her friend invite. Once someone becomes your friend they'll have access to any information your friends are capable of seeing.
Tag your Facebook friends in your photos
Always make sure to tag any of your Facebook friends that are in pictures you upload. However, never tag someone who is not in the picture. When someone is tagged in a photo that picture is automatically added to that persons profile and is a great way to share pictures with all friends.

Sync Google+ Posts with Twitter and Facebook

Sync Google+ Posts with Twitter and Facebook

While Google+ is a young platform compared to Twitter and Facebook, it is becoming relevant in the world of social media, at least in some industries. But, with the addition of a third major social network comes the headache of having to post information in yet another place.
To maintain sanity, syncing Google+ activity with Twitter and Facebook is necessary. Chrome and Firefox users have the option to automatically sync Facebook and Twitter posts with a browser extension called  G++.

G++
G++ detects your browser, so look for an orange block towards the top of the page with a green button that says either Add to Chrome or Add to Firefox. Click the green button.
add to chrome
A message will appear in your browser warning that installing browser extensions can be dangerous. Click Continue.
Continue
Another window asked if you are sure you want to install G++. Click Install.
image
Now, log into Google+. At the top of the page will be a place where you can make one post and it will sync with Twitter, Facebook and Google+. You can upload pictures and links, and even check in. Check the boxes on the bottom row to post to the networks of your choice.
image
Check the boxes on the top row to stream your Twitter and Facebook feeds to your Google+ stream. You will need to give G++ permission to access each network to stream them.
allow
Scroll through your G+ stream to see  posts from your Facebook friends and the people you follow on Twitter. Tweets appear in light green, while status updates appear in blue.
tweets in stream
If you are comfortable with using Google+, then G++ is a good tool for managing all three social networks from one place. Many of us are not yet comfortable enough with Google+ to use it as our main communication interface for social networking, but a tool like this may inspire us to try. Overall, if you are using all three social networks, G++ is worth downloading.

FACEBOOK WILL CLOSE IT'S SITE ON MARCH 15th, 2012 !!!!

FACEBOOK WILL CLOSE IT'S SITE ON MARCH 15th, 2012 !!!!

Guyzz I Dont think Its a True Info ... what you think .. but its spreading all over ...

FACEBOOK WILL CLOSE IT'S SITE ON MARCH 15th, 2012 !!!!

PALO ALTO, CA –Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be shut down in March of 2012. Managing the site has become too stressful.

“Facebook has gotten out of control,” said Zuckerberg in a press conference outside his Palo Alto office, “and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness.”...

Zuckerberg went on to explain that starting March 15th of next year, users will no longer be able to access their Facebook accounts. That gives users (and Facebook addicts) a year to adjust to life without Facebook.

“After March 15th, 2012 the whole website shuts down,” said Avrat Humarthi, Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook. “So if you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won’t be able to get them back after Facebook goes out of business.”

Zuckerberg said the decision to shut down Facebook was difficult, but that he does not think people will be upset.

“I personally don’t think it’s a big deal,” he said in a private phone interview. “And to be honest, I think it’s for the better. Without Facebook, people will have to go outside and make real friends. That’s always a good thing.”

Some Facebook users were furious upon hearing the shocking news.

“What am I going to do without Facebook?” said Denise Bradshaw, a high school student from Indiana. “My life revolves around it. I’m on Facebook at least 10 hours a day. Now what am I going to do with all that free time?”

However, parents across the country have been experiencing a long anticipated sense of relief.

“I’m glad the Facebook nightmare is over,” said Jon Guttari, a single parent from Detroit. “Now my teenager’s face won’t be glued to a computer screen all day. Maybe I can even have a conversation with her.”

SIGN THE “SAVE FACEBOOK” PETITION HERE

Those in the financial industry are criticizing Zuckerberg for walking away from a multibillion dollar franchise. Facebook is currently ranked as one of the wealthiest businesses in the world, with economists estimating its value at around 7.9 billion.

But Zuckerberg remains unruffled by these accusations. He said he will stand by his decision to give Facebook the axe.

“I don’t care about the money,” said Zuckerberg. “I just want my old life back.”

The Facebook Corporation suggests that users remove all of their personal information from the website before March 15th, 2012. After that date, all photos, notes, links, and videos will be permanently erased

How To Hack Facebook Account | The Web Browser Attack

In this following post I ll discus with you about how you can hack facebook account using tools that can attack web browser's password safe. Each web browser has feature of storing passwords, every browser first encrypts that password and then stores it in password database but the fact is that their encryption method is so weak that these tools can retrieve passwords
from them with or without master password enabled. They can sometimes retrieve passwords even from cookies and caches stored by web browsers that means you only need your victim to use web browser at least for once. Here I am providing you link to those tools along with small description as per by their manufactures, all of them are free and one click and output ready tools, surely they don't require tutorials just because result is obtained just by a single click.

Facebook Password Decryptor:
FacebookPasswordDecryptor is the FREE software to instantly recover stored Facebook account passwords stored by popular web browsers and messengers. Most of the applications store the Login passwords to prevent hassale of entering the password everytime by the user. Often these applications use their own proprietary encryption mechanism to store the login passwords including Facebook account passwords. FacebookPasswordDecryptor automatically crawls through each of these applications and instantly recovers the encrypted Facebook account password.
FacebookPasswordDecryptor presents both GUI interface as well as command line version, the later is more helpful for Penetration testers in their work. Apart from normal users who can use it to recover their lost password, it can come in handy for Forensic officials who can get hold of any stored Facebook Login passwords which can give vital clue in their investigation.
FacebookPasswordDecryptor is fully Portable software which can be directly run anywhere without installing locally. It also comes with Installer for those who wants to install it locally and use it on regular basis. It works on wide range of platforms starting from Windows XP to latest operating system Windows 7.

Fire Master:
Firefox comes with built-in password manager tool which remembers username and passwords for all the websites you visit. This sign-on information is stored in the encrypted form in Firefox database files residing in user's profile directory. However any body can just launch the password manager from the Firefox browser and view the credentials. Also one can just copy these database files to different machine and view it offline using the tools such as FirePassword.
Hence to protect from such threats, Firefox uses master password to provide enhanced security. By default Firefox does not set the master password. However once you have set the master password, you need to provide it every time to view sign-on credentials. So if you have lost the master password, then you have lost all the stored credentials as well.
So far there was no way to recover these credentials once you have lost the master password. Now the FireMaster can help you to recover the master password and get back all the sign-on information.

IE Password Decryptor:
IEPasswordDecryptor is the FREE tool to quickly and easily recover stored passwords from Internet Explorer. It can recover both Autocomplete and HTTP basic authentication passwords from IE secret store. User can double click on any of the entry to visit the website which makes it easy to verify sign-on passwords. It automatically detects the installed IE version and use appropriate technique to successfully decrypt all the stored passwords in plain text.

It also presents 'IE History Manager' interface which not only displays the contents of IE history in detail but also provides the option to add/remove websites with ease. User can save the displayed password list and IE history list to TEXT as well HTML file for offline verification & storage.

Opera Password Decryptor:
OperaPasswordDecryptor is the FREE tool to instantly recover the passwords stored by all versions of Opera. Like other internet browsers such as IE, Firefox etc Opera also stores the username/passwords for websites visited by user. However passwords are stored only if the user opts to save password during authentication. This is very useful feature as it prevents user from hassle of entering password everytime.
Opera stores the passwords along with username, website and other related information in the password file (wand.dat) in an encrypted format. OperaPasswordDecryptor automatically detect the secret password file location and decrypts the passwords instantly.

Safari Password Decryptor:
SafariPasswordDecryptor is the FREE software to instantly recover website login passwords stored by Safari web browser. Like other browsers, Safari also has built-in password manager which stores the login passwords for the visited websites so that user don't have to enter the password every time. Safari uses its own local storage format and encryption mechanism to securely store these login passwords. SafariPasswordDecryptor helps in automatically recovering all such website login passwords stored by Safari.
SafariPasswordDecryptor presents both GUI interface as well as command line version, the later is more helpful for Penetration testers in their work. Apart from normal users who can use it to recover their lost password, it can come in handy for Forensic officials who can get hold of any stored Website login passwords.
SafariPasswordDecryptor works on most of the Windows platforms starting from Windows XP to latest operating system, Windows 7.
